Meet Our 2019 Awardees

Community Sustainability Award

Corporate Honoree

James D. Letchinger 

Founder and CEO

Jim Letchinger founded JDL Development in 1993 and has since gained recognition as one of Chicago’s premier developers. Over the past 20 years, JDL has focused on developing luxury high-rise apartments and condominiums, urban retail and mixed-use single-family homes, townhomes, and student housing. Mr. Letchinger is intimately involved in all aspects of JDL’s projects, from inception to completion and is one of Chicago’s most creative and respected developers. As JDL’s project size and scope has grown, so too has its experience of creating successful partnerships with leading institutional capital providers both in the U.S. and abroad. To date, JDL has developed more than 1,200 residential units with another 1,500 currently preparing to be in construction. 

 Mr. Letchinger is a graduate of the University of Michigan. A life-long resident of the City of Chicago, Mr. Letchinger is married with two grown children.

Resident Honorees

Elvis Foster

Riverwalk Resident Elvis Foster is a Supervisor at the Healthy Eating and Lifestyle (H.E.A.L.) Garden and Food Pantry.  Elvis has excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for helping people, taking it upon himself to promote and recruit volunteers for the Pantry and all events held at Riverwalk Homes. 

Through his kindness, personality, and dedication, Elvis has gained the love and respect of his community making him the “go to” person for his fellow residents.

Leonardo Wilbut

16 year-old Parkside Resident Leonardo Wilbut is known to HHCD staff for his dependability and hard work. 

Leo was a participant in this year’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), where he worked as a janitor, standing out for his promptness, and for always offering an energetic, cheerful greeting to HHCD staff.  Preparing for his junior year of high school, Leo’s positive attitude will serve him well in school and beyond.
